Before understanding the salvation of God, we must understand why we need salvation. Ever since the first sin was committed in the Garden of Eden by Adam and Eve, every person born after that was born into sin. Just as Adam and Eve's sin separated them from God, our sin has also separated us from God. It was by man's free choice that sin was committed against God, thereby bringing sin into the human race.
The Problem We All Face
Since God is Holy He cannot look upon sin, nor can He tolerate sin. Since all people are sinners, God cannot have a relationship with man until the penalty of sin has been paid and sin removed. Without the gift of salvation through the shed blood of Jesus Christ, all sinners would be completely and eternally separated from God.
"For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God." - Romans 3:23
"For the wages of sin is death..."
- Romans 6:23 A
The Solution For Our Problem
"but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." - Romans 6:23 B
As sinners we deserved to die and face the penalty of our sins, but God in His great love sent His only Son to take our place and our punishment upon Himself so that we could be saved.
"For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life." - John 3:16
Salvation is a gift that God provides to us through faith in Jesus Christ. This gift cannot be earned or deserved, therefore no one can boast about earning their salvation.
"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast." - Ephesians 2:8-9
How You Can Accept This Gift
* Believe in your heart Jesus is God's Son, that He died for your sins, and that God raised Him from the dead.
* Repent: turn away from your sins.
* Confess: acknowledge your belief in Jesus, and that you accept Him as your Lord and Savior.
"except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish." - Luke 13:3
"That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved." - Romans 10:9
